sky diving

With my dad being in the air force when I was a kid. I'd see the parachutes come down in the sky while outside playing. I thought that was so cool and I wanted to do that too. I was told kids can't do that and no, they cant hold me and jump with me so I was out of luck. It was always something wanted to do. I was 10 yrs. old when he retired from service.

There was a drop zone near where we lived when I was in high school, both my brothers got to jump. You had to be 21 or have your parents permission to jump and my parents wouldn't let me. After I got out of high school I started hanging out at the drop zone. Met a lot of the people that jumped regularly and that made me want to jump even more.

I was twenty 6 months from 21 and I told them I had a birthday and now I was 21. I finally got to jump. Thirty dollars and a three hours of classes. I needed to climb out of the plane and hold on to it till the instructor hit me on the butt and that meant it was time to drop. The instructor asked me later why I didn't wait for him to hit me which I had thought he had. He said that I didn't do the free fall like I was taught to do, but that it was a pretty fall just more for a advanced jumper. Those static lines are great I don't think I would be here to write this if not for them, because I think that I fainted when I fell, and when the parachute opened, it jerked me awake. When the parachute opened I was so glad. The rest of the fall was what I excepted. The landing was like jumping off a coffee table, I had it together then and did the landing right I fell and rolled over.

Too bad I landed in the mud puddle . A dream that came true. Never had the nerve to do it again.
